In the spring of 2011, we, Rochelle and Erik, became the proud owners of Château La Mothaye. We immediately fell in love with the peace and nature of the estate, while the castle had already been renovated to a considerable extent.

We completed this renovation and started as a castle B&B in 2012. We have been living permanently in France since the beginning of 2014 with our three children: Mats, Tijn, and June (now 20, 17, and 15). They were 4, 6, and 9 at the time and immediately went to the French village school. Fortunately, that went very well.

In 2018 and 2020, the gites in the old caretaker’s house were completed, after an extensive renovation because they were actually ruins. We did almost everything ourselves.

During the Covid period, we converted all accommodations in the chateau to self-catering. This means that each accommodation now has its own kitchen, sitting area, and bathroom. This also marked the end of our B&B activities.

We now offer 3 beautiful castle apartments, 1 romantic castle studio, and two beautiful gites.

And on the estate there are still a few old buildings to renovate, so there are plenty of opportunities for more gites in the future.

We would like to share our experiences with travel, hotels and hospitality to make your stay unforgettable. Feel free to ask us for tips in the area about the Loire castles and historic towns.
