Château Brézé

Breze - Chateaux de Loire - Castle La Mothaye Anjou Brion France - Bed and Breakfast - Chambre d'hotesWhen you visit Château de Breze you will have a different experiance than at the other Loire chateaux.

Breze is also mentioned as 'a castle beneath a castle': there is an underground fortress and tunnels carved out of the tufa stone underneath. Breze lies beautifull in the heart of a vineyard. Wear an extra sweater when you visit Breze.

Travel tip: combine this with Château Montreuil-Bellay (10 km), or Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud (12 km) and/orf Château Montsoreau (12 km).

City and château Saumur

Château de Chenonceau

Chenonceau - Chateaux de Loire - Castle La Mothaye Anjou Brion France - Bed and Breakfast - Chambre d'hotes

Chenonceau is an exceptional site not only because of its original design, the richness of its collections, its furniture and its decorations, but also because of its destiny, since it was loved, administrated and protected by women, who were all extraordinary and who, for the most part have marked history. Therefore often called ‘the ladies chateau’ .

It is one of the most visited castles in the Loire.

Abbaye de Fontevraud

Fontevraud - Chateaux de Loire - Castle La Mothaye Anjou Brion France - Bed and Breakfast - Chambre d'hotesThe  Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud is one of the most beautiful abbeys in France. The abbey was founded in 1100 and became a double monastery, with both monks and nuns on the same site. An interna-tional success, the order established several "Fontevrist" abbeys set up in England. The abbey was originally the site of the graves of King Henry II of England, his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine and their son King Richard I of England. The restoration of the abbey was finished about 2006.

City and châtau Baugé

Baugé - Chateaux de Loire - Castle La Mothaye Anjou Brion France - Bed and Breakfast - Chambre d'hotesA small but 1001 year old town with a histori-cal centre function for the region. There is an interesting 15th century château to visit. This castle at Baugé originally served as a hunting lodge.

Nowadays, part of the chateau houses the Baugé Museum of Art and History. Whilst a short distance from the chateau can be found the Apothicairerie de Baugé, one of the finest old chemist’s (apothecary’s) shops in France.

Château Chambord

Chambord - Chateaux de Loire - Castle La Mothaye Anjou Brion France - Bed and Breakfast - Chambre d'hotesThe château of Chambord is one of the most unique constructions left to us by the Renaissance. And the most famous one of the Loire.

Chambord was relatively spared by the French revolution. The château de Chambord was not intended to be a permanent residence, François I would in fact spend only a few weeks here. It was an architectural jewel that the king liked to show to visiting crowned heads and ambassadors as a symbol of his power.

Château de Montgeoffroy

Montgeoffroy - Chateaux de Loire - Castle La Mothaye Anjou Brion France - Bed and Breakfast - Chambre d'hotes

Very close to us (<10 km) is this impressive château de Montgeoffroy . It is one of the last chateau in the Loire Valley that has keeped it's origional furnitures of Louis the XVth XVIth styles. In 1772, the Marshal de Contades decided to rebuild the château as a retirement home. The building miraculously survived the French Revolution and the Revolt in the Vendée conserving its common buildings, agricultural structures, chapel and park.

Château Brisac

Brisac - Chateaux de Loire - Castle La Mothaye Anjou Brion France - Bed and Breakfast - Chambre d'hotes

Seen from the vast lawns of the Romantic-style parkland, the façades of the Château de Brissac are a striking sight. Brissac tells the story of a family which never left its native land of Anjou. Since the time of René de Cossé, the first lord of the castle in the early 16C, more than 20 generations have succeeded one another.

The Château de Brissac has also had its own vineyard for almost 600 years.
